And just like that, February is over.  It is always the longest month for me, but when it is finally over, I am always surprised at how fast the time has gone.  This was a busy month for us which included TWO trips-one of them being a weekend away for Mama and Daddy while the kids stayed with Grandma and Poppa.  Tomorrow we welcome March and this weekend we will have a very special party for a newly 11 year old (!!!).

With Blake's permission, I have posted a *small* sampling of his work from his Ancient Civilizations block.  We began with Ancient India way back in November, took a few weeks off during December, and finished it up in January.  This was definitely the most intense block we have ever done in terms of material covered and the amount of work documented in his Main Lesson book, BUT we had so much fun!  To be honest, I was kind of dreading it a bit as Blake always grumbles and groans when it came to writing (and drawing really), but once we were absorbed in the stories, he had a blast re-creating the images in his book.  And it turned out beautiful!!!!  I cannot say how so very proud I am of him.  He put so much care and effort into his work and his drawing improved by leaps and bounds with this block!  He has set a new standard for his work and I know he will continue to live up to it.

Right now, we are wrapping up a math block (decimals-he is loving it!) and next week we will finally, finally begin our Ancient Greece myth and history block.  This will also be a long block, 6 weeks, with lots of drawing and writing involved, but he has been begging for this since the beginning of 5th grade so I don't anticipate any resistance.

Things have been a bit hectic around here.  So much so that when friends of ours invited us to the mountains for several days, we jumped at the chance to go.  A mini vacation mid-winter?  Yes, please!  Last weekend we loaded up the car, winter gear included, and headed to Gatlinburg to spend 5 wonderful, but all too short days away from "life".  There was an equal amount of lounging in the cabin (i.e. knitting in front of the fire) and exploring.  The kids also got to play in the snow!  We all had so much fun and declared that a return trip was a must.  I am so grateful to our friends for giving us exactly what we needed!
